These injections are a natural technique for replacing lost facial collagen. It contains poly-L-lactic acid, also known as PLLA, an alpha-hydroxy acid from the lactic acid family. Poly-L-lactic acid is a synthetic polymer that has been used for many years in surgical sutures and stitches.
Sculptra is a facial filler that can be used for cosmetic or medicinal purposes in patients, including those with HIV, to repair and correct symptoms of face loss. Poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer.
This product is available in 367.5mg strength vials that must be reconstituted before use by adding 5ml of sterile water for injection, yielding a sterile non-pyrogenic suspension.
Usage
Before being injected, the micro-particles of Poly-L-lactic acid are mixed with sterile water. After that, Sculptra is injected beneath the skin, where it degrades and stimulates collagen formation. Over time, the medicine gradually increases the volume of the depressed areas of the face. After 2 or 3 treatments spaced by 4 or 6 weeks intervals, patients will notice a natural and youthful improvement in their skin. The effects of Sculptra may last up to two years.
Information about safety and precautions
When purchasing Sculptra, you should take a few things into consideration. The following are some examples:
* If a patient receives Sculptra and then undergoes any treatment that requires an active dermal response, there is a risk of inflammatory reactions in the injected area. Such treatments include laser resurfacing and chemical peeling.
* Sculptra's safety and efficacy have not been tested in areas where lipoatrophy symptoms are not present or where other dermal fillers have been injected.
* The safety and efficacy of Scuptra in the lips have yet to be determined. Because the vermillion area of the lip is red, Sculptra should not be injected there.
* Sculptra should be injected deep into the dermis or into the subcutaneous layer. If injected superficially, it may result in negative side effects such as papules and nodules. Papules and nodules may form if Sculptra is injected in the peri-orbital area. Sculptra should not be combined with other dermal fillers in the face. Only a medically qualified practitioner who is familiar with the patient's medical history, the product, and the entire package information should use Sculptra to treat lipoatrophy in HIV patients.
